1892 $5 Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle – CACG MS64 – Near Gem Mint State Gold
Offered here is a beautiful 1892 Liberty Head $5 Gold Half Eagle, graded MS64 by CAC Grading. This near-Gem Mint State example represents a high-quality pre-1933 gold coin with excellent eye appeal and strong collector demand.
The 1892 issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mintmark) and is part of the long-running Liberty Head Half Eagle series. While more available than some earlier dates, examples in near-Gem and higher Mint State grades are increasingly difficult to locate, especially with strong eye appeal.
Graded MS64, this coin offers vibrant original luster with rich golden coloration and impressive surface preservation. The fields are clean, and the devices are sharply struck, showing strong detail throughout Liberty’s portrait and the reverse eagle. Only minor contact marks are present, consistent with the grade, giving this coin an overall premium appearance.
Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features Liberty wearing a coronet surrounded by thirteen stars, while the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield, arrows, and olive branch. The coin is composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, with an actual gold weight of approximately 0.2419 troy ounces.
Liberty Head Half Eagles remain a staple of U.S. gold collecting, valued for their classic design, gold content, and historical significance. High-grade examples such as this MS64 are especially desirable, offering near-Gem quality with strong long-term appeal.
CACG certification provides added assurance of quality and originality, making this an excellent addition to any advanced U.S. gold collection or type set.
